My wife and I are in Ireland right now, starting off the New Year with family. I just managed to slip away to solve the puzzle, and write up this abbreviated post. I will get to the full post just as soon as I can.

Thank you for your understanding.

  1. 8:09. This one did not feel at all like a Saturday to me.

I was surprised to see POSTDOCS in the NYT puzzle. When I was a postdoc, I always felt no one had any idea what that was. “Wait, are you still a student?” “No.” “Are you a professor then?” “No.” “Then what are you?” is how the conversation usually went.

  2. 14:50. Agreed. More Friday-like than Saturday.

I’ve never had Turkish coffee, but I suspect I’d like it if it’s that STRONG. I’ve gotten to the point where I’ll carry little packets of Starbucks instant and add it to hotel coffee when I travel. It’s the only way to make most hotel coffee passable.

    Best –

  3. 23:30, no errors. Agree with previous posters, whipping through 75% of the grid in under 15 minutes. Then I hit a brick wall in the east side. Wanted to make 20D be related to precooked weight in some way.
